English Green - For the Nation & Ecology
ENGLISH GREEN is a campaigning organisation that is interested in promoting localism, enviromentalism/deep ecology and animal welfare. We fight for a future for our green and pleasant land - and hopefully encourage others from around the world to do the same in their own countries.
We aim to further many of the environmental ideas laid out in the Decalration and Philosophy of Progressive Nationalism, the booklet which inspired our formation. We also hope we will influence the establishment of other pro-Nation pro-Ecology organisations in Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Ulster, Cornwall and across the globe. A world of a thousand flags, each with its own specific pro-Nation, pro-Ecology, pro-Animal Rights movement.
We are a realist green movement, specific to England as “Any Other Green” will be specific to whichever other nation. The bigger idea will be for the various “Nation Greens” to work together – as we see the world as a patchwork quilt of nations – independent and yet allied through green issues. This is the starting point. So once the principles of English Green are set other folk can form, French Green, Namibian Green, etc. The principles should be the same but their application will (probably) be different as each nation is different.
ENGLISH GREEN is largely supportive of the campaigns of other pro-environment and animal rights groups. We also recognise that in order for us to fully protect our natural environment, we must not place overbearing stress upon this through failing to recognise the impact of an unsustainable population. Increasing the population means additional housing, road building, vehicles, supply of utilities, supply of food, use of energy, extra waste, sewage etc. This is something the Green Party recognised in the late 1980s and early 90s and in its 'Manifesto for a Sustainable Society'. Unfortunately today they give little reference to this. Our belief is it is the responsibility of all national governments to aim towards creating sustainable populations for their nations.
ENGLISH GREEN will comment and campaign on the economic and social issues which contribute towards environmental destruction as we believe you can not deal with one and not the other. This is what sets us apart from other environmental organisations.
Those who are progressive in thought and attitude and agree with the principle of fusing ecology with nation, encompassed within a worldview, are welcome to join us and take positive, progressive action to preserve the ecology of the nation and encourage others to do the same the world over.
